🏰 【An opulent and intensely spiced Echézeaux Grand Cru from Charles Van Canneyt, the 2020 vintage showcases deep red and black fruit with a delicate yet dense structure.】 The 2020 vintage, despite being hot, produced wines that are more classic than expected, with excellent acidity and structure. Charles Van Canneyt, a talented micronegociant, focused on gentle extraction to achieve a balance of richness and freshness. This Echézeaux Grand Cru, the second largest in Côte de Nuits, offers a captivating bouquet of red cherry, wild strawberry, and orange peel, with a mineral scent emerging with air. On the palate, it's medium-bodied with a hint of sweetness, fleshy ripe fruit, and concentrated fruitiness with smooth tannins. Expect deep, complex red and black fruit, intense spice, and a green olive note, achieving both density and delicacy on a long, pure finish.
🍴 This exquisite Pinot Noir is a fantastic pairing for sophisticated dishes like roasted duck, game birds, or pan-seared foie gras. It also complements mushroom risottos and fine, mild cheeses.
🥂 This Echézeaux Grand Cru is a wine for discerning palates and special occasions. While enjoyable now, it will benefit from a bit of aging to fully develop its dignity and structure. It's a promising wine with great depth and pure fruit, offering a sensual and fresh experience.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Charles Van Canneyt, better known as Domaine Charles Van Canneyt, is one of the rising stars of the revered Domaine Hudelot-Noëllat. He took over the reins from his grandfather Alain Hudelot-Noëllat in 2008 and has since won high praise and high scores from critics. While he followed the family philosophy of "letting the terroir speak," he made some minor improvements through lower yields and more judicious use of oak. This, coupled with his extensive holdings throughout Burgundy, helped the young winemaker quickly become a new star.
