🏰 The 1996 Chateau Plince, a Pomerol from Bordeaux, offers a glimpse into the elegance of a mature vintage. While specific tasting notes for the 1996 are less common, Pomerol wines from this era are known for their 【evolving complexity, showcasing tertiary aromas alongside softened fruit】. Expect notes of dried fruit, earthy undertones, and perhaps a hint of leather or tobacco, characteristic of well-aged Bordeaux. The 1996 vintage in Bordeaux was generally considered good, with a classic profile that allowed for graceful aging.
🍴 This mature Bordeaux red pairs beautifully with classic meat dishes such as roasted lamb, beef tenderloin, or duck confit. Its developed flavors also complement earthy dishes like mushroom risotto or truffle-infused pasta. Aged hard cheeses would also be a delightful match.
🥂 This 1996 Chateau Plince is perfect for a special anniversary, a contemplative evening, or a gathering of wine enthusiasts who appreciate the nuances of aged wines. Given its age, it's advisable to handle the bottle with care, as older corks can be fragile. Decanting for a short period (30-60 minutes) might be beneficial to allow the wine to open up and separate any sediment, but avoid over-decanting very old wines. Serve at a cellar temperature of around 16-18°C (60-64°F).
BACKGROUND
Château Plince is a 10-hectare (25-acre) estate in Bordeaux's Pomerol region. The Moreau family dedicate the entirety of their vineyards to the production of a single Merlot-dominant Bordeaux blend, making approximately 50,000 bottles per year. The vineyards extend over 9ha (22 acres), 72 percent of which is planted to Merlot, 23 percent to Cabernet Franc and 5 percent to Cabernet Sauvignon. In a break from the vast majority of estates in Pomerol, Château Plince harvests its vineyards by machine.
