🏰The 2010 Chateau Rauzan Gassies is considered 【one of the strongest efforts from the estate in many years】, potentially a sleeper of the vintage. This Margaux reveals an opaque purple color with notes of incense, licorice, black currants, and blackberries, showcasing impressive concentration, soft tannins, and good acidity. It offers a fine bouquet with good purity and terroir expression, evolving with tertiary fruit, tobacco, and bay notes. While approachable now, it benefits from several years of cellaring and is expected to drink well over the next 20+ years.
🍴 This full-bodied Margaux is best served with classic meat dishes such as veal, pork, beef, lamb, duck, and game. It also pairs well with roasted or grilled dishes, hearty fish like tuna, mushrooms, pasta, and various cheeses.
🥂 An excellent choice for a formal dinner, a significant celebration, or as a valuable addition to a wine collector's cellar. Decanting for 1-2 hours is recommended for younger vintages to soften and open its perfume.
BACKGROUND
Château Rauzan-Gassies is a wine estate in the Margaux appellation of Bordeaux. It was classified as a second growth in the 1855 Classification of the Médoc and Graves, and like many wines in the appellation is Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant.The 28-hectare (70-acre) vineyard is located on gravelly soils which are typical to the area. Cabernet Sauvignon makes up around two thirds of plantings, with Merlot and a tiny amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot making up the rest. Wines are vinified in modern stainless steel vats, with alcoholic and malolactic fermentations happening at the same time. Château Rauzan-Gassies typically spends a year in oak barrels, around a quarter of which are new.
